Founder of Chronically Fit, Debra Donnarumma, started creating customized medical backpacks in 2016 due her daughters illness. Diana was an extremely driven college graduate who became very ill and was forced to move back home. She had total global dysmotility of the stomach, small and large intestines which caused her a great amount of pain and vomiting. Her daughter considered herself a girly-girl and the standardized medical grade backpacks only made her daughter feel worse about her own health problems. More than anything, Diana just wanted to feel confident, fashion forward and trendy even with her tubes and backpack.
So, after some online investigation, Diana and her mother were left unsatisfied with what the market had to offer her, so they decided to create their own. After some trial and error, the Chronically Fit Backpack was created which chronic illness warriors consider to be perfect for TPN and Tube-feeds.
The company formed very organically by word of mouth in the tubie and intestinal failure community. Chronically Fit became much more than a backpack but rather a state of mind and community. Chronically Fit loves hearing all the positive feedback from its customers and they joy they feel when a stylish medical backpack arrives for the first time. This business gave Debra's daughter, Diana, a sense of purpose and passion and temporary relief to forget her illness and pain.
